Internet Security Threats

The Internet is masked by many factors out of our control. We are told- the bottom line is: "Nothing is safe on the Internet." Not- so!
You can decide "what information you will share, view, receive & send out."
Viruses, malware, spyware, bots and spam will find their way to your doorstep to get in. Specifics in your fill-in forms, e-mails & instant messages & attachments can be captured easily without adequate security precautions. In return, you will receive junk mail containing more spam, pop-ups and spyware which will compromise your personal space & identity.
Yes, you can partially block some of it with Windows higher security & privacy settings. Though you need to know the basics to survive on the Internet.
Free tips on "How to Protect?" by Norton.

How do I protect myself?
1.- Insist on quality Internet security software. Retain control over your own computer. This includes one solid firewall (for in & outbound traffic), anti virus definitions that update very frequently, spam blocking & spyware plus bot protection with removal capabilities.
2.- Do not participate in P2P or torrent networks. Your uploads and downloads are easily monitored. You have to show openly to everyone your address to participate- even with full Internet Security and firewall up- you have open a wide open door/port id thieves hackers and site providers to penetrate the depths of your computer. Do not disclose any personally identifiable information on social networks. They are the predator's hunting grounds masquerading their true purpose and traceable back to "you know who!".
3.- Use backup software to always keep a separate copy of your valuable information settings & programs- in the even of an intrusion or system failure.
Internet security is about protecting your personal information & your investment in equipment, data & software. Be aware that there are Internet threats in the most unexpected places, like conficker and waladec.
